First robots got here on your job, now they’re taking up Hollywood.
An AI robotic named Erica has landed the lead function in the upcoming sci-fi movie, b, in line with the Hollywood Reporter. While, as Dazed famous, fellow AI actor Sophia the robotic did take pleasure in a brief spot on Westworld again in 2019, Erica will reportedly be the first robotic actor to guide a movie.
Japanese scientists Hiroshi Ishiguro and Kohei Ogawa created Erica, instructing her to behave by “applying the principles of method acting to artificial intelligence,” in line with producer Sam Khoze.
“In other methods of acting, actors involve their own life experiences in the role,” Khoze instructed THR. “But Erica has no life experiences. She was created from scratch to play the role. We had to simulate her motions and emotions through one-on-one sessions, such as controlling the speed of her movements, talking through her feelings and coaching character development and body language.”
While casting an AI lead could appear to be indie movie materials, b is way from a small-scale manufacturing. The $70 million sci-fi movie has been backed by Bondit Capital Media — which financed titles like To the Bone and the Oscar nominated Loving Vincent — Belgium-based Happy Moon Productions and New York’s Ten Ten Global Media.
And whereas Erica could also be the first robotic film star, extra aspiring robotic actors could quickly observe in her footsteps as Hollywood pursues new security measures amid the coronavirus pandemic. While Hollywood has already begun toying with the thought of changing background actors with AI extras, a coronavirus-proof star could mark a new pattern in post-pandemic manufacturing.Read the full story at The Hollywood Reporter
