Among the brand new choices coming from the high-profile streaming service HBO Max? New animated shorts that includes the likes of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Writing in regards to the new shorts in The New York Times in late May, Robert Ito noticed that these animations recall the mid-century golden age of the cartoons in query.

“[I]in both form and function, Looney Tunes Cartoons hearkens back to the franchise’s roots,” wrote Ito. This included every thing from an embrace of music to some deep-cut character selections — Hubie and Bertie, anybody? But there’s one substantial change with this new period of Looney Tunes: antagonists Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam, each identified for their alternative of armaments, can be sans weapons in the brand new shorts.

At Consequence of Sound, Alex Young famous that the brand new animations will give each characters one thing aside from firearms to menace Bugs and firm with:

Though the brand new Looney Tunes episodes have been in the works since late 2017, the choice to omit weapons looks as if a sound determination given the rash of college shootings, cases of police brutality, and different episodes of violence which have plagued America as of late.

This is to not say that the duo received’t have weapons of any sort; Elmer Fudd, for occasion, will make the most of a scythe in the brand new shorts. Quite frankly, a scythe-wielding Elmer Fudd appears like nightmare gasoline. And for these craving an armed Fudd, it’s not as if there aren’t actually many years’ value of shorts (and a few options) on the market.
